This course will provide students with the opportunity to work through one of the most widely celebrated texts in the field of Arabic Grammar (al-Nahw). Our author Imam Abū ʿAbdullāhi Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Dāwūd aṣ-Ṣanhaajī, also known as Ibn Aajurruum, penned this masterpiece in the 8th century after Hijra which covers the most central components of the Arabic language. It’s status is largely undisputed and given that this text is over 700 years old and is still utilised in some of the most prestigious centres of Islamic learning, it illustrates the importance of this work in guiding students of knowledge through the tool of sacred knowledge, namely Arabic. 


The central aims and objectives of this course include: 

  • Cultivating an improved relationship with the Quran which is grounded on an understanding of the Arabic language.

  • To learn the foundational principles of Arabic grammar and

  • To illustrate the centrality and importance of possessing a strong grasp and command of the Arabic language in understanding Islamic texts and literature
